The center performs voluntary and free screening tests for HIV and anonymous voluntary tests at a low fixed cost for the serological syphilis.
Counseling pre-test is systematically performed for every patient. The patient may voluntarily choose and is well enlightened to do or not to do the screening test. For those who accept the test, a counseling post test is being processed whatever the result will be. Then each patient receives an individual prevention advice.
From now on, all the screening activities will be performed at the center level in order to accelerate the test result process; and hence to optimize this activity on the beneficiaries.
To get positive HIV test results, confirmation test will be performed at the National Reference Laboratory. A new rapid testing laboratory (financed by AFD) with a communication and prevention staff (financing to be found) is being planned for 2006.
